 Wall Tag: Lewis "Goldie" Hawkins, Palm Beach, 1970s Lewis "Goldie" Hawkins owned and operated Golide's restaurant (present day site of Island Mermaid) from 1951 through the early seventies where celebrities contributed their talents at a piano sing-a-long. Ethel Merman and Art Carney among others were close friends and guests of Goldie. Ocean Beachers recall that "...everybody sang around the piano and danced, it was a very communal feelings..." Accoring to Goldie, "the piano playing, good chef and little competition made the place a success." Lewis "Goldie" Hawkins was a night club pianist. After the success of his Ocean Beach restaurant he opening Goldie's in Manhattan. Goldie presently lives in Palm Beach, Florida where he is a "high society" pianist.
