Sacramental Registers

Volume 1 is a handwritten register of sacraments from 1725 to 1798. The volume documents baptisms, funerals, and marriages. Each page has an index number (beginning with “A-“) that was added at a later time. Baptisms date from June 13, 1725 to July 26, 1789. The indexed pages are “A-1” (HSG_000002) to “A-143” (HSG_0000074). Of particular note is the documentation for the baptism of enslaved people. Funerals date from January 23, 1790 to October 16, 1798. The indexed pages are “A-144” (HSG_000075) to “A-149” (HSG_000079). Marriages date from August 12, 1727 to November 8, 1789. The indexed pages are “A-150” (HSG_000081) to “A-279” (HSG_000144).

 Volume 2 is a handwritten register of sacraments from 1789 to 1853. The volume documents baptisms, funerals, and marriages. The register of baptisms begins on October 21, 1789 (HSG_000245) and ends on November25, 1828 (HSG_000282). After this, rectors listed all sacraments together, similar in form to a “day book” or journal; the practice ended in 1853 (HSG_000356). This section of the volume also includes “Reports of Conventions” and “Annual Reports.” The volume contains lists of communicants from 1823 (HSG_000357) to 1844 (HSG_000361). Burials date from 1801 (HSG_000362) to 1829 (HSG_000378). There is a list of families from 1844 (HSG_000379). Finally, the volume contains a marriage registry from 1789 (HSG_000381) to 1828 (HSG_000423).

 Volume 3 is a handwritten register of sacraments from 1849 to 1893. The volume documents baptisms, confirmations, communicants, marriages, deaths, and church offerings. It contains: Baptisms, 1849 (HSG_000435) to 1893 (HSG_000455); Confirmations, 1849 (HSG_000456) to 1893 (HSG_000462); Communicants 1854 (HSG_000463) to 1891 (HSG_000482); Marriages 1849 (HSG_000483) to 1892 (HSG_000490); Deaths 1849 (HSG_000491) to 1893 (HSG_000502); and Church Offerings 1849 (HSG_000503) to 1893 (HSG_000515).

 Volume 4 is a handwritten register of sacraments and related items from 1893 to 1922. It contains the following: “Baptisms,” July 9, 1893 (HSG_000156) to April 15 1922 (HSG_000182); “Confirmed,” March 21 1894 (HSG_000186) to March 29 1915 (HSG_000191); “Communicants” (in alphabetical order), HSG_000192 to HSG_000203; “Burials,” 1903 (HSG_000204) to 1908 (HSG_000206); “Marriages,” May 15 1894 (HSG_000208) to May 28 1915 (HSG_000217), and May 9 1911 (HSG_000184); “Burials,” August 3 1893 (HSG_000219) to February 14 1903 (HSG_000223); "Offerings - Financial Reports,” May 15, 1894 (HSG_000225) to May 1, 1903 (HSG_000226); and “Index,” HSG_000228 to HSG_000241.
